Menopause has many commonly known symptoms such as hot flashes, and several lesser known ones such as menopause depression. Most women don’t realize that this normal change in their bodies puts them at high risk for depressive feelings.

While some sadness about the changes in your body is completely normal during menopause, sometimes it goes beyond a simple mourning of your old life. Up to 15% of menopausal women are clinically depressed, and most won’t seek treatment, thinking it isn’t serious or that they are being ridiculous for feeling this way. However, menopause and depression is a serious issue that needs to be recognized.

The cause of menopause depression hasn’t been pinned down yet, although theories abound. Some believe that the hormonal chaos created by the massive change in a body is the reason for the depression. Others claim the symptoms, hot flashes and and other physical changes, cause stress which leads to depression. Yet others claim it has nothing to do with the actual menopause, but more with the changes taking place in the woman’s life. Children moving out, a natural decline in estrogens, losing parents to old age, and getting older herself can all be catalysts. Any woman with a history of depression is more likely to fall prey to the disease during her menopausal years. The symptoms of menopause and depression can be similar and are often confused. Both cause fatigue, irritability and sleep disorders. Blast Fat With Bodyweight Circuits

More and more people want or need to burn fat and most will give up
after getting little or no results. The reason they don’t get the results is
because they are not doing the right exercises that will burn fat and
build muscle all at the same time.

Most people go to the gym and when they get there they train using
cardio equipment ( treadmill, stationary bike, etc. ) then they move
on to weight training, and they spend up to 1 hour or more in the gym,

The best way to exercise and get results is to stay home and to exercise

All about Lasik Surgery: Cures and Treatment Options

LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis.

Lasik surgery is a vision correction procedure by performing surgery which permanently reshapes the cornea which is a clear top layer of the eye through an excimer laser technology so the eye can focus correctly and vision becomes clear.

A knife, called a microkeratome, is used make a cut in the cornea to make a flap which is folded to show the middle of the cornea which is called – stroma. Once it is revealed technically controlled laser rays are produced to vapourize a particular portion of the stroma and then the flap is put back in place. The range of laser rays and the particular portion of stroma is decided by the power of myopia or hypermetropia of eyes or the number being used for glasses or lenses.

You may need lasik surgery if you are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism.

You may go in for the surgery after an examination with the ophthalmologist as you need to abide by certain conditions

2) free from cataract

3) no eye infection or inflammation

The procedure

The surgery should take less than 30 minutes. You will lie straight on your back in the room containing the laser system. The laser system includes a large machine with a microscope attached to it and a computer screen.

A numbing drop will be placed in your eye, the area around your eye will be cleaned, and an instrument called a lid speculum will be used to hold your eyelids open. A ring will be placed on your eye and very high pressures will be applied to create suction to the cornea. Your vision will dim while the suction ring is on and you may feel the pressure and experience some discomfort during this part of the procedure. The microkeratome, a cutting instrument, is attached to the suction ring. Your doctor will use the blade of the microkeratome to cut a flap in your cornea.

The microkeratome and the suction ring are then removed. You will be able to see, but you will experience fluctuating degrees of blurred vision during the rest of the procedure. The doctor will then lift the flap and fold it back on its hinge, and dry the exposed tissue.

The laser will be positioned over your eye and you will be asked to stare at a light.. It is very important to stare straight on the light as the laser is positioned accordingly and a wrong placement might have extremely negative effect.

When your eye is in the correct position, the laser will start. As the laser starts you might experience a burning smell A computer controls the amount of laser energy delivered to your eye. Before the start of surgery, the computer would have been programmed to vaporize a particular amount of tissue based on the measurements taken at your initial evaluation. After the pulses of laser energy vaporize the corneal tissue, the flap is put back into position.

A shield should be placed over your eye at the end of the procedure as protection, since no stitches are used to hold the flap in place. It is important for you to wear this shield to prevent you from rubbing your eye and putting pressure on your eye while you sleep, and to protect your eye from accidentally being hit or poked until the flap has healed.

Post surgery

1) You should avoid going out in the sun for a week

2) Avoid strain on eyes such as computer or tv

3) Do not wash eyes

4) Do not use eye makeup or cream ,lotions near eye area

5) Sports such as swimming , boxing, football, karate, etc. should not be attempted for at least a month after surgery.

6) Protect eyes from anything that would touch or hit them

During the first few months after surgery, your vision may fluctuate.

• It may take up to three to six months for your vision to stabilize after surgery.

• Glare, haloes, difficulty driving at night, and other visual symptoms may also persist during this stabilization period. If further correction or enhancement is necessary, you should wait until your eye measurements are consistent for two consecutive visits at least 3 months apart before re-operation.

• It is important to realize that although distance vision may improve after re-operation, it is unlikely that other visual symptoms such as glare or haloes will improve.

ADHD: The Process of Diagnosis

Many people are curious about how ADHD is diagnosed. How do doctors know it’s really ADHD and not just normal behavior?

ADHD diagnosis is a complicated procedure.

First, the physician, psychologist or social worker will look for other causes of the child’s behavior, besides ADHD.

These causes can include:

- A sudden change in the child’s life, such as a death in the family, parents’ divorce, or parent’s job loss

- Undetected seizures

- A middle ear infection that causes intermittent hearing problems

- Learning disability causing underachievement

- Anxiety or depression

The practitioner will take into account school and medical records that show ADHD-like behavior and other information, and will try to determine whether the home and/or school environments are chaotic and causing stress.

The specialist will ask the parents and teachers to fill out a special ADHD rating scale which helps with diagnosis, and may interview teachers and others close to the child.

In most cases, the possibly ADHD child will be screened for general mental health and social adjustment, and will probably have tests of intelligence and learning achievement to screen for learning disabilities.

What the specialist is doing is piecing together a jigsaw puzzle that is the child’s behavior. Which ADHD-like behaviors listed in the most recent DSM-IV does the child show? How often? In what situations? How long has the ADHD-possible child been exhibiting these behaviors? How old was the child when the ADHD-like behaviors started? Are the behavior problems relatively chronic or periodic in nature? Are the behaviors seriously interfering with the child’s life? Does the child have any other related problems?

The answers to all of these questions will figure into a diagnosis of ADHD (or not).

This is just a brief sketch of what goes into an ADHD diagnosis. Your child’s pediatrician can give you more information on ADHD diagnostic criteria.

Any machine we use is dependent upon fuel to operate. Likewise, well-being is dependent on the nature, quantity, and quality of the foods people consume. However, it is increasingly clear the average person thinks that whatever is put into the body through the mouth will adequately feed the body.

Studies after World War I of North Carolina mountaineers found their diets to be largely fat pork, coffee, and grits made of white corn, combined with a liberal use of tobacco, chiefly snuff. Sometime later, studies made in the southern states of Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas showed people were also living on deficient diets. These individuals for the most part were underweight, nervous irritable, and old appearing at relatively young ages. Such poor dietary conditions still exist in a number of areas in America today.

The most striking finding of such studies was the prevalence of serious degenerative diseases. Many homes had one or more bedridden with endocarditis,acute rheumatism and chronic arthritis, and a number suffered digestive and nervous system disorders - not to mention a high degree of tooth decay and pyorrhea.

It has been demonstrated by a number of scientists that deficient diets result in the same diseases as are caused by infections. Dr.Price also made extensive studies of the reactions of animals inoculated with different strains of dental infection bacteria, and these repeatedly produced symptoms and lesions which resemble - to a marked degree - those produced by deficient diets.

Studies demonstrated the immune systems of animals on deficient diets led to more advanced systemic pathologic diseases and, conversely,those on good diets responded less quickly to the onslaught of the introduction of dental infections and had better survival rates. That being stated, it should be said that during Price’s studies it was found that many animals on deficient diets still had a remarkable power of defense against infection, though not equal to those on normal diets. A particular problem of deficient diets was the production of low ionic calcium which, n turn, lowered the animals’ defense to dental infections.

Other Overload Stresses which Increase Susceptibility.

Physical and nervous exhaustion, when it exists for prolonged period, increases one’s susceptibility and reaction to dental infections. Likewise,no one will dispute that the presence of other types of acute or chronic infections such as diphtheria, salmonella infections, candidiasis, syphilis, and other sexual diseases, accentuates the severity of reactions from oral infections.

Alcohol and other drugs are well-known as substances which increase pathologic effects, including those which arise from dental infections and their toxins. Price’s studies revealed alcoholics are more susceptible to streptococcal infection from focal infection sources.

Many people have expressed appreciation of the dental profession and the high interest dentists have demonstrated over many, many years of encouraging the public to adopt preventive dentistry principles and better nutrition in order to save their teeth and reduce the need for dental treatment.

Those who neglect such preventive advice not only find their oral diseases become more extensive, but also that additional dental services they require make their dental expenses much high. Prevention of the need for root canal treatment by early discovery of the presence of tooth decay is a prime example.

Poor diet practices create vitamin and mineral starvation which, in turn,produces overload stress similar to that caused by disease. In addition, deficient diets,particularly those resulting in upset calcium balances, tend to directly lower the body’s defense against dental infections and can severely alter other metabolic. People should adopt good nutritional habits and see their dentist two to three times per year for regular and thorough prophylaxis and examination. The consequent positive overall health effects of such preventive practices are what everyone hopes to achieve.

Especial care should be taken when using “hot” oils! Always use “hot” oils in extremely weak dilution of less than one percent for skin application.

Commonly used “hot” essential oils known to have the potential to cause, skin irritation, include: basil (Ocimum basilicum), bergamot (Citrus bergamia), birch (Betula lenta), black pepper (Piper nigrum), cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum), clove (Eugenia aromatica), ginger (Zingiber officinale), expressed (cold pressed from peel) oils of lime, lemon, orange and grapefruit (Citrus limetta, limonum, sinensis and paradisi), lemongrass (Cymbopogon citrates), oregano (Origanum compactum), Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris), Siberian, balsam or silver fir (Abies siberica, alba, balsamea), thyme (Thymus vulgaris), wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) and in some cases, tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia), ylang ylang (Cananga odorata) and peppermint (Mentha piperita).

If any of these essential oils is applied in a dilution of carrier oil on the skin and a hot, red irritation occurs this is the result of a burn to the skin that requires immediate attention. Always have a vegetable carrier oil like Pure Light Coconut Oil or Jojoba available to apply onto the skin in such cases!

Apply a carrier oil will have an immediate effect of calming the skin irritation. Do not wash or rinse the area with water as this will drive the essential oils further into the skin and increase, not diminish discomfort.
