Allergies are on the rise with food allergies leading the way. Many of food allergies are
related to dairy and for those that are trying to eliminate dairy from their diets it can
be a real challenge. Check out these tips for allergy dairy free diets.

Some foods that appear to be dairy free actually are not. This is why you may still feel
awful after eating what you thought was dairy free food. It will take a while to figure
out what an allergy dairy free diet is made of, and you can continue to improve on that
diet over time.

To begin an allergy dairy free diet you need to start reading labels. All labels – even
those foods that you would assume would not have any dairy products in them – many times
they’ll be hidden deep in the ingredients.

You might be surprised to discover that these food allergies can contain dairy.

If you have eliminated dairy and it’s derivatives an allergy dairy free diet will be fairly
straightforward. But one big concern is the amount of calcium you are getting. Much of
your calcium intake comes from dairy so it’s important to find replacement foods. Here’s a
list of some excellent calcium sources.

Almonds, Hazel nuts, Sesame Seeds
Cabbage, Asparagus, Broccoli
Prunes, Blackstrap Molasses, Figs

If you are experiencing symptoms that you think may be a result of dairy then an allergy

several symptoms that can occur but some are more common. Digestive disorders such as gas,
bloating, wind, cramps, and diarrhea or constipation are all very common with a dairy
allergy. Some may have difficulty breathing, runny nose, ear ache, soar throat, or
symptoms that resemble hay fever. A few will have asthma, eczema, or behavioral problems
such as ADHD.

If you are having any of these symptoms why not consider an allergy dairy free diet for a
couple of months and see how that goes. If symptoms disappear or become less of a problem
you can bet that dairy is likely at least one of your food allergies. If there are still
some problems you should take your food allergy detective work a step further.

The primary goal of a bipolar disorder research is to determine the genetic and other factors that cause people to experience manic and depressive moods. Most individuals know that bipolar disorder tends to run in families and involves many environmental factors. One of the most common psychological problems, depression, affects almost everyone in one way or another. Almost everyone either has a family member, friend, or maybe even they suffer from depression themselves. There are around 17 million adults in the United States that suffer from some period of clinical depression. While these people are living with depression, they also are directly affecting all of the people they are close to. Indirectly their co-workers can become affected as well, by causing negative feelings in the workplace or lowered worker productivity. Often, co-workers can pick up on something that is wrong with their work mates, and this can affect their mental state at work as well.

Depression can go undetected in a person for a long time, but there are usually signs that point to this being what is happening to the person. People who are depressed start to withdraw from family and friends. They are not available as much or maybe they don’t want to talk when you call. Depressed people also tend to drop out of normal social activities, such as going to the gym or maybe an activity they used to enjoy. It is not always the easiest thing to pinpoint that a person suffers from depression, this being because depression has similar symptoms to other things such as changes to sleeping patterns, appetite changes, and other physical signs of illness.

Anyone can become depressed. Depression is not a selective condition, meaning that any race, gender, or person can be affected. Depression affects how a person thinks, feels, and sometimes, even how they act. We have all been, at one time or another “down in the dumps” to the point we just want to give up. It is said that we have over 60,000 thoughts daily and that much of those are the same as those that we had the day before. In other words we exist in a perpetual chatter in our minds. It is little wonder then that all our miseries and our pains we experience are created in the chatter that we keep repeating to ourselves.

It is only recently that the concept of being silent through simple exercises like meditation has started to be embraced in the western culture. In the western culture we value noise. Think about a conversation that has a pause of silence, it is perceived as uncomfortable and even embarrassing so we rush to fill that silence with noise. We spend very little moments in our daily lives in the silence and yet it is in the silence where we will find true bliss.

The benefits of meditation go far beyond just the silence. Meditation has also been linked to a reduction in stress, anxiety and improved well-being. We can all do with less stress in our lives and integrating small pockets of your time daily can do wonders for you. Think of it as taking time out each day for yourself. You wouldn’t think twice about taking out some time out to have coffee with a friend or walking your dog in a park so why not subscribe daily to taking time out for yourself.

Practicing meditation needn’t mean selling all your worldly possessions and joining a Buddhist monastery. You can do it without affecting your current lifestyle. Simply find a quite place that you can be undisturbed for about 15 mins and set this aside daily for your meditation. It might be a room in your house. A good time is either in the morning before work or in the evening before retiring to bed.

You can place a few cushions to make it more comfortable and sit down in your quite space. Simply close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing. Breathe in deeply through your nose for a count of six and breathe out through your mouth for a count of six. Simply repeat this until you feel a sense of calm throughout your body and focus on relaxing.

Don’t worry to much about your thoughts, try initially to focus on your breathing. As you do this more and more begin to focus more on the breathing and try to empty your mind of thoughts.

The idea with meditation is to take time out of your daily routine for yourself. Have fun with it.

Is Heat or Ice Better for Arthritis Pain?

You probably know that applying heat or ice to a painful joint can help relieve pain, but have questions about these simple techniques. Which one? Why? How often? How long?

The only time you must choose “ice” is during the first 48 hours after a sudden injury or surgery. Cooling the area causes the nearby blood vessels to constrict; there is less swelling, so there is less pain. Heat opens up the area’s blood vessels, improving the flow. Increased circulation brings oxygen and healing elements to the scene, while flushing away wastes: in with the good, out with the bad.

Use your ice/heat pack as often as you’d like; at least three times a day. Heat before activity warms up the joints, and ice afterward cools the inflammation from the friction in arthritic joints. Most packs can be frozen or heated; buy two. Keep one in the freezer, pop one in the microwave when you need it.

When trying to find relief from your daily arthritis pain, you can’t go wrong by experimenting here! Choose a large ice/heat pack that is pliable enough to cover and conform to your painful joint. Try it for 20 minutes (check your skin every 5 minutes!) If you feel better, then you’ve made the right choice! If not, try the other.

People are always willing to give you advice regarding your acne. The problem is that most of the advice they give are myths that they’ve picked up over the years.

However, skin experts are actually dismissing those as nothing but myths. The best way to cope with your acne problem is to educate yourself and it is with this purpose that we decided to list here the common acne myths that people often encounter.

1.You can outgrow your acne. This might be true in some cases but at least 25% of teenagers who have acne carry it into their adult lives. And more and more woman in their 20’s to late 40’s are reporting having acne for the first time. It is much more sensible to treat your acne immediately to avoid emotional stress and permanent scarring.

2.Bad eating habits causes pimples. The common myth is that chocolate, caffeine or oily foods will lead to or worsen an acne condition. In a large clinical research study no links were established between acne and food. However, some people feel that certain food can cause an acne outbreak. If this is your case try avoiding these foods for 2 to 4 weeks and monitor your acne. If your acne improves, do a test and try eating these foods to see if it will indeed cause an outbreak.

3.The sun will clear up acne. While tanning will dry up existing acne and help cover blemishes. It does not prevent acne from resurfacing. The dry skin will make the oil glands produce more oils and block your pores creating pimples and blackheads. Not to mention the risk of skin cancer and premature wrinkles.

4.Sex causes acne. No, the hormonal changes your body goes thru during puberty that lead to the maturation of your sexual features may cause acne. Sexual activity does not cause acne.

5.Drinking water will flush out acne. While drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water a day is recommended for a healthy body. Water alone will not cure acne. It will however, keep your skin healthy which will help in the fight against acne.

6.Stressed out = breakouts. Very high levels of stress may produces hormones that can cause acne. But normal levels of stress we encounter everyday will not produce an outbreak.

7.Poor hygiene causes acne. People believe that acne is caused by uncleanliness and they tend to over-wash or scrub their face. Over-washing and scrubbing too aggressively can damage the skin by stripping it of natural lipides. The oil gland will then produce more oils causing acne outbreaks. Using alcohol to wash your face will produce the same results. Washing 2 times daily with a salicylic acid(2%) based face wash will help treat your acne.

So the next time someone tells you one of those things, gracefully thank them for the advice and correct them and share what you know. Remember, knowledge is power.

• 6 pack of mineral water; stock up on a good mineral water, buy the 1.5/2 liter bottles and drink one each day. Carrying the bottle with you will help you self-monitor how much you are drinking, if there is any left at bed time, then finish off the bottle. Most people do not drink enough water, and if you are exercising you will need extra. Being properly hydrated will; give you more energy, promote good skin, aid digestion and absorption of nutrients, help avoid constipation, aid weight-loss, reduce headaches, keep you mentally focused, protect your heart, and support your liver. Drinking 1.5 liters of chilled water will burn off 100 calories each day as your body warms the water to blood temperature- wow in one year that is worth nine pounds of body fat! Make the effort to drink more (water) this year.

• Oats; start each day the best way with a bowl of oats; make porridge or home made muesli with skimmed or Soya milk (muesli- 30 g oats, a few seeds and chopped nuts, a handful of sliced strawberries and blueberries), or have with some natural live yoghurt and some steamed pureed apples- yum! Oats contain plenty of fiber, are full of vitamins and minerals, help reduce cholesterol, and help maintain a steady metabolism; warding off sugar cravings, and making you feel full. I believe that they are the number one breakfast choice to support your body, and they are very cheap to buy. Get a breakfast habit!

• Sprouts, cabbages, purple broccoli, red cabbage and cauliflower are all amazing. These brassicas are some of the healthiest vegetables that you can eat, rich in cancer-fighting ingredients, providing fiber to protect against bowel problems and bowel cancer, and containing high levels of vitamins and minerals to support your organs and immune system- you cannot afford to leave them off your shopping list.

• Get Fruity, with berries; these wonderful fruits are bursting with cancer-busting ingredients, and also contain fiberand many different vitamins and minerals including potassium; thought to keep the heart healthy, and lower blood pressure. Put them in a fruit salad, sprinkle over your breakfast (see below) or turn them into a smoothie.

Making food tasty using herbs and spices means you do not need to use salt to add taste. Cutting down on salt will revive your sense of taste, lower blood pressure, improve your heart health, and banish water retention; you will loose a few pounds, feel better and improve your health.
