Prepare Yourself for Your Doctor Visit
America has the best healthcare in the world. However, no doctor or technology is as invested in your health as you are. In other words, the quality of the healthcare you receive is in direct proportion to the amount of communication that you choose to share with your physician. Doctors are professionals that are still practicing and unfortunately you are the one they are practicing on!
You are a paying customer and whether you have health insurance, Medicare or Medicaid the care you are receiving is still a service being provided and you are responsible for getting the most out of that service. Before you visit your doctor define what you want him or her to know about you and your symptoms.
Below are a few ways that may help you in communicating with your doctor:
Have an agenda of what you want to accomplish before your visit.
When speaking with your physician focus on details when discussing your condition.
Before your visit has ended with the doctor, make sure you understand all that was discussed and you have answers to any questions or concerns.
If at the end of the day your questions have not been answered or you were not able to get the answers to the questions you had, it may be a good time to start the process of finding a new doctor you can communicate with.
